Back Pain

Back pain is a very common issue nowadays due to our modern lifestyle. Both men and women between the ages of 30 and 50 are mainly affected. Back pain may affect one individual as a result of falls, slips, lack of exercise, as a part of other diseases etc. Even if the pain is not very intense, negligence and lack of treatment will lead to serious physical issues.  Back pain may start with muscle ache and may radiate into the legs or feet, and may include symptoms other than pain.

In Ayurveda, back pain is known as nitamba shoola or kati shoola, and leads to bone and muscle weakness. Kati vata, prishta shoola, kati graha, trika shoola and trika graha are the other common names in Ayurveda for back pain.

Vata dosha: Intense pain that is variable and migrating. The pain becomes the worst when it is cold and lessens when warmth increases. Non-movement, continuous travel, overuse of muscles, stress etc will cause vata dosha in the body.

Pitta dosha: Intense, lancing pain. Pain due to pitha dosha increases when it is hot and decreases when the body is cooled down. It occurs due to shock, anger, inflammation, etc.
Kapha dosha: Deap and diffused pain. Cold is the enemy of such kind of pain and feels very relieved when it is hot. Kapha dosha is the result of lack of exercise, congestion, overweight, non-movement etc.
